The FIFA Women's World Cup – in its ninth edition – has shown that women’s football has progressively gotten more competitive and exciting over the years, observers say. Sunday's showdown, where Spain beat England to lift the trophy, was both teams' first time at the World Cup finals, in a sport long dominated by the United States.
